I found this place online and sent an email, I immediately got a response. Each time I email the owner/business I get a response which is helpful. Falaka did my braids and she was very fast and nice. She didn't talk a lot and I personally like that. I appreciated being the only one in the store getting my hair done as well. I am not from Boston, so I had never visited Mattapan before and it's definitely colored to say the least. There are many black people and hispanics. I felt safe non the less and was HAPPY to support a sister. With that being said, I waited to write this review because I was incorrectly charged. On the website in order to book an appointment you must put down a $20 deposit. I understand this, and thought nothing of it when I went to make my hair appointment and was charged $20. At the time of the hair appointment Falaka charged me $100 to do my braids (its $100 Monday - Wednesday as a special - I went on a Wednesday) In the Mattapan location you can only use cash and that was new to me since I don't ever remember getting a note to bring cash. (They do send you appointment text messages though:) ) Anyway, I gave Falaka the money and a tip and then realized my 'deposit' was not refunded to me. Make sure you only pay the difference in the refund when you go to your app. & a tip. Overall my experience was lovely - Fast, quick, professional, and the owner did refund the deposit to me, I just hate that it took so long. They should really invest in something to take CC. (I am not a business owner, so I have no idea why this place is cash only) Also, there is no ATM so you have to walk a bit if a distance to get the cash. I got medium sized box braids pretty long - took 4 hours. I would recommend this place.
